What a great summer! I have been playing with The Reese Dailey Band (Son of Legendary Pat Dailey) on Put in Bay Island most of the summer. The band also features my good friend and long time musical partner Mike Cleveland. The band gets better and more adventerous every week.
Also, I just received 3 new cymbals from Sabian:  21" Groove Ride, 17" HHX Evolution Crash, and 18" HHX Evolution Crash. I am in love.

July 14, 2011

Europe with Five Horse Johnson was great. Last week, I recorded two songs with Khalid Hanifi and Pat Prouty (Much fun).  The rest of the summer will be spent recording for various songwriters and performing at Put in Bay Island with The Reese Dailey Band.

The Spirit of Bonham:  I just added a  vintage 14" x 24" Ludwig Kick to the studio kit.  I am happy as a school girl.

April 6th, 2011

Great shows with Lucciana Costa in LA and NYC.

Sabian just sent me the coolest ride cymbal I have ever heard: A 22" HHX Legacy Heavy Ride. It has more personality than a lot of people I know!

January 28, 2011

Cool new gigs: The second week of March will include a gig in Los Angeles with Lucciana Costa.  More gigs with Lucciana the last week of March in Ithaca, NY and Long Island, NY.

I will be joining my  old friends Five Horse Johnson in a tour of Europe in June 2011. The tour will include a stop at the Swedish Rock Festival.

I have added a gig page and promise to keep my gigging schedule current.

January 2011

Drum session recording projects for January include songs for  Khalid Hanifi, Kyle White, Tom Caulfield, Lucciana Costa, Matt Robertson, Broken Man, Jeff Stewart,  Mark Guitar, and others. Lots of cool gigs as well.  Here's to getting through winter!

The Remote Rhythm Section:

New Adventures in Online Recording

www.remoterhythmsection.com

The music recording industry has become increasingly mobile and decentralized. For the past decade, at least, musicians have become more able to record on the road, at home, anywhere outside of the typical studio location. Singers, songwriters, producers, and engineers throughout the world now rely, sometimes exclusively, on building their recordings with off-site, or remote, performances. While the vocal track is recorded in New York City, the guitar and bass tracks may be recorded in Nashville. And the whole thing might be mixed in London. That’s how it works. And what’s more, the musicians may never have played together or shaken hands.

As remote recording becomes the norm, some old principles and struggles remain the same. For songwriters, the most classic struggle is finding and maintaining a tight, artistic, and agile rhythm section—a musical ensemble that delivers a vibe and a necessary groove. Even with the best software, music still needs musicians—people who can turn a nicely written song into a perfect listening experience. Some people spend years—even decades—seeking out local musicians to round out their vision. But with remote recording, musicians can employ the best in the business and never worry about the politics of band practice, rehearsal locations, or studio fees.

The Remote Rhythm Section

is an ensemble of seasoned performers and studio musicians. We take basic recorded tracks and add drums, bass, guitars, keyboards according to the client’s needs. In short, we are a full band of musical mercenaries. We can be hired for one song or a whole recording project.

New Brunswick’s own Randy Ross is currently recording a new album with Moment Of Inertia. Germany’s Michael Wolpers is preparing to record with his band Treibhaus. The songwriting process is nearly done and if everything works out the way they planned, he’ll start tracking drums at the end of June in the famous Horus Sound Studio in Hannover. Allison Hovey is now playing with Dee Hernandez, who just signed an album deal in Asia. He also just finished work on the latest album with country artist Kevin Chase and now has a summer full of gigs. Mike Indovina and the band Lion Ride recently recorded a bunch of new tunes and have released one song called "Stick It In" on their myspace page. These songs are going to be on our upcoming album to be released later this year. Samual Ward is keeping busy as musical director for artist Angelica Ward. He is working hard producing, writing, and engineering her debut album titled Kingdom Worship. He is also producing an album for artists Allison Winnie. Karl Gans is currently in the midst of a two-month Canadian tour with Ross Neilsen and the Sufferin' Bastards - a must-see act. Chuck Mauk has recently finished work on his own studio (The Happy Hands Club, LLC) and is now remotely recording drums for artists anywhere and everywhere. “It's a very exciting time to be a recording artist,” said Mauk. “I can put drums and percussion on a track and just hitting "send" and it's off to the artist.” Richard Jones will be busy this summer playing gigs with his band Flattop, playing several gigs around New Brunswick. Calgary's Jeff Towers will be playing the opening of the RUSH movie at the Up Town Theatre in his home city on June 7th. Adam Parent and his group Ninjaspy are preparing to go overseas for the first time this summer. They have a Japanese tour lined up with Death By Stereo and Zestone Records' band Lost. “We are also currently negotiating a full European tour including a festival appearance in Slovakia,” he said. “After 4 years and several Canadian tours I don't think these opportunities could have come at a better time.” James Hayden has recently returned from a European tour with DOA. Watch for the band on tour in the US this coming summer. Matt Sobbs from the blues band Monkey Junk is having a particularly good year. Here's what he had to say. "

We have had quite a year so far and it's not even half over.  Starting off in January, we won 5 out of 6 awards at the Maple Blues Awards (Canada's national blues awards program) that we were nominated for including Entertainer of the Year and Electric Act of the Year.  Then, In March, we won the Favorite Blues Artist award at the Canadian Independent Music Awards at Canadian Music Week in Toronto beating out other highly esteemed nominees such as Colin Linden and Colin James.  It kept rolling into May when we won a highly prestigious award . . . we won Best New Artist Debut for our record Tiger In Your Tank at the Blues Music Awards held in Memphis Tennessee.  These are the blues industry's highest honour.  Formerly known as the W.C. Handy Awards, these awards have been given out to the blues elite for 30 years and MonkeyJunk is only the 2nd Canadian act ever to win (second only to Jeff Healey who won an award posthumously last year)!  We will be touring Canada coast to coast this summer and fall appearing at clubs, theatres and many major festivals including Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest, Mont Tremblant International Blues Festival, Kaslo Jazz Etc. Summer Music Festival (on a floating stage!), Calgary International Blues Festival, Edmonton's Labatt Blues Festival, Southside Shuffle in Port Credit and Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton among others..."
